Fire Detection & Alarms

Fire alarm systems are one of the best investments your business can make to ensure it is protected from fire

Based in Durham and covering the North East of England, CDS Security & Fire are fully accredited to BAFE SP203, BS 5839 and BS 5266. A Certificate of Competence is issued, aiding your compliance with the RRFSO. Certificates can be issued for the following;

  • Design
  • Installation
  • Commissioning
  • Handover
  • Verification
  • Maintenance

An automatic fire alarm system is designed to detect the unwanted presence of fire by monitoring environmental changes associated with combustion e.g. smoke/heat.

In general, a fire alarm system is either classified as automatic, manually activated, or both.

Automatic fire alarm systems can be used to notify people to evacuate in the event of a fire or other emergency, to summon emergency services, and to prepare the structure and associated systems to control the spread of fire and smoke.

Carefully matching technology to application, CDS Security & Fire offer a full range of detection, alarm, aspirating/VESDA Systems, beam detection, extinguishing systems and wireless/radio systems in the North East.

Offering Open Protocol solutions that enable total flexibility, CDS Security & Fire maintain excellent relationships with all major manufacturers of fire systems, ensuring the system we propose best suits your individual requirements.

We design, install, maintain and service systems throughout the Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Cleveland and North Yorkshire areas that range from those comprising of only one or two manual call points and sounders, through to complex networked systems, incorporating a large number of fire detectors, manual call points and sounders connected to inter-communicating control panels, and further on to Voice Evacuation Systems.

Types of system include;

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems

Conventional fire alarm systems are the entry level for most fire system requirements. These alarms are suitable for small offices, nurseries, small hotels, warehouses, shops and any small business.

Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems

Addressable fire systems transmit data over the detection circuit that provides intricate information for the user including the exact location of the fire. Addressable fire alarm systems are ideal for larger premises such as hotels, office blocks and large factories.

Wireless/Radio Fire Alarm Systems

Radio fire alarms (also known as wireless fire alarms) are the same as a standard analogue addressable fire alarm system but with the advantage of no wires to interlink the detection and sounders. Wireless fire alarms are ideal for existing or multiple buildings such as schools, colleges or science parks.

Aspirating / VESDA Pipe Detection Systems

An aspirating smoke detector (ASD), consists of a central detection unit which draws air through a network of pipes to detect smoke. Aspirating smoke detectors are highly sensitive, and can detect smoke before it is even visible to the human eye. Aspirating Systems are ideal for voids, lift shafts, dusty areas, warehouses etc.

Reflective Beam Detection System

Optical beam smoke detection is a very cost effective method of protecting large areas, especially using reflective technology that only requires wiring to one end.

Voice Evacuation Systems

Voice Evacuation systems can utilise pre-recorded emergency Voice messages, warning that an emergency has been reported and to evacuate the building (often also mentioning not to use lifts), and can also be used by personnel and firefighters to give specific information and/or instructions over the alarm system. Usually they are either tied into the building's public address system or are outfitted with their own speakers.

Remote Monitoring

The monitoring of fire signals and subsequent transmission to the relevant fire brigade authorities to ensure automatic fire brigade response can be carried out by our 24-hour monitoring and alarm-receiving centre.

Due to the legal requirement to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment with the increasing responsibility for safety on the owner / occupier, the majority of premises require a Fire Detection system, either for the protection of life or for the protection of goods, valuables, processes and machinery within the premises.

Therefore it is increasingly important that the quality of fire protection ensures "fit for purpose" and is installed and maintained by "competent persons". Choosing fire protection from a BAFE Registered Firm ensures that its products and services conform to recognised standards. Where relevant an independent third party certificate of conformance is issued that can be used as part of a statutory defence in law, should the necessity arise.

All service/maintenance visits are carried out as per BAFE and our Quality Assurance ISO 9001:2008 procedures, covering 24-hour call out service, and emergency 4 hour response (out of hours) with a full diagnostic check carried out during a maintenance visit, and copy report issued to the client.
