BAFE SP203 (03.09.07)

CDS Security & Fire are the 1st company in County Durham to be awarded the prestigious BAFE Accreditation for Fire Detection Systems.

Another Insurance Giant backs BAFE (03.09.07)

Royal and SunAlliance, one of the largest global insurance companies, join other insurance giants such as Alliance Cornhill, Norwich Union and AXA in specifying BAFE Approval as part of the insurance requirement for fire alarm systems.

BAFE SP203 certification, is highly recommended by the Fire Safety Reform Order and the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA), for the design, installation commissioning and maintenance of fire detection, alarm and suppression systems. It allows companies to become 3rd party certified and BAFE listed as a recognition of their competence to undertake their scope of work.

Royal and SunAlliance also denote that every fire alarm system should provide remote signalling in conjunction with a certified centre.

CFOA Policy Changes (03.09.07)

New CFOA Guidelines recommend the following timescales for remotely monitored fire alarms:

  • From 1st April 2007 all Remotely Monitored Fire Alarm Systems with a Unique Reference Number (URN) need to be maintained by a 3rd Party Certified Company.
  • From 1st April 2008 all new Remotely Monitored Fire Alarm Systems need to be designed, installed and commissioned by a 3rd party certificated company with BS5839 Part 1 in their scope.

The majority of Fire Brigades have now signed up to the CFOA document, which means that after these dates those Fire Brigades can refuse to respond to fire alarms raised by an automatic alarm receiving centre unless backed up by a 999 call, or, the associated Fire Detection and Alarm system has a registered URN.
