Voice Evacuation Systems, also called Voice Alarm Systems are normally a mandatory requirement in Europe for rail and air transport, high-rises, schools, hospitals, and other large facilities where there can be a large proportion of public in one area.
A voice alarm (VA) system (sometimes referred to as a ‘voice evacuation’ or ‘VACIE’ system) enables phased evacuation from a building (or area) during an emergency such as a fire. A voice alarm system uses pre-recorded messages and/or live announcements to inform and evacuate people effectively during a fire or other life-threatening emergency.
There is some well documented research into the behaviour in the event of fire. Most striking is the variation in the response to alarm signals:
- 13% of people react in a timely manner to bells
- 45% of people react to text information
- 75% of people react in a timely manner to voice messages
All systems are supported by the appropriate EN54 standards and are complimented by a range of certified loudspeakers to ensure the system is both compliant with regulations and will perform reliably.
