Paxton Access Ltd is releasing Net2 Software Version 7 in early 2026, and there are a few things you need to know before it’s released!
The update includes significant security improvements, including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and sets the system up for new features that Paxton will roll out throughout the year. But there are some compatibility requirements worth checking now rather than later.
One of the biggest points to check is controller compatibility. Paxton states that Net2 v7 does not support systems containing Net2 Classic door controllers, and any system with Net2 Classic hardware cannot be upgraded beyond Net2 v6.9. That means businesses still running older controllers should start planning ahead to avoid being left on an older version without access to the latest security improvements and future software developments.
It is also important to review the PC or server environment hosting your Net2 software. Paxton’s current compatibility guidance lists support for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025, with up-to-date service packs and updates applied.
For organisations using Net2 (discontinued by Paxton back in January 2014), now is the right time to review system compatibility and make sure your setup is ready for the latest version and plan to upgrade. They’ll continue to function on your current version, but without security updates or access to new features, and any future faults could become more costly to resolve on unsupported hardware.
If you are unsure which controllers your site is using, or whether your current system is ready for Net2 v7, CDS Security & Fire can help. Our team can review your setup, identify any upgrade requirements and advise on the most practical next steps to keep your access control system secure, supported and ready for the future.
