CCTV can consist of a camera, viewing and recording equipment or be a simple video monitor allowing you to see who is at the door, ranging to multiple camera systems offering smart alerts to enable you to receive instant notifications to your mobile device of visitors or unwanted guests approaching your property, or in a certain area. These smart notifications are much more advanced than basic ‘motion detection’ and as such provide a more robust perimeter alert system.
There are many options available (and as with everything) some very cheap options available, however you do need to think about what you expect to be able to see from the images that are recorded, and what you will use the images for.
For instance, if you wish to have the images considered in a court of law they must be fit for purpose and comply with British and European Standards to be accepted as evidence, this includes having the date and time automatically recorded on to each ‘frame’, and the ability to offer high-quality footage for evidential purposes.
A survey by an experienced surveyor can be essential as there are a lot of factors to consider before being able to decide which camera, lens, monitor and type of recording equipment would be suitable to give you the images you are expecting to see.
