North Shields Transport Hub
As a key part of North Tyneside Council’s ambitious efforts to improve North Shields and turn it into a leading residential destination and family-friendly area, they decided to create a new Transport Hub and adjoining town square.
The £13 million Transport Hub integrates buses, taxis, the Metro, and cycling infrastructure into one single location. The facility is North Tyneside Council’s first to be fully carbon-neutral in its construction and operation, aligning with their wider aim of achieving carbon net-zero status by 2030.
Safety and security feature predominantly in the designs with a high-quality, open and expansive waiting area.
What they needed?
North Tyneside Council needed to establish a safe and secure environment at the new North Shields Transport Hub. Recognising the critical importance of security measures like fire safety, intruder detection, and emergency response, North Shields Transport Hub sought professional solutions from CDS Security and Fire.
Their requirements included the installation of fire alarms, intruder alarms and a toilet alarm system. They believed these measures were essential to bolstering the overall security infrastructure of the transport hub and assuring peace of mind for everyone involved.
How we helped:
We played a pivotal role in fostering a safe and secure environment at the North Shields Transport Hub. To address fire safety concerns, our expert engineers installed a Gent Addressable Fire Alarm system. The fire alarm aspirating installation had to be redesigned to suit the architectural open plan timber joisted ceiling, not only to provide a compliant system but also to be as unobtrusive as possible in line with the client’s requirements.
We also installed and integrated a Honeywell Galaxy Grade 3 Intruder Alarm to safeguard against unauthorised access and a Vox Ignis Toilet Alarm to ensure the well-being of individuals in need of assistance and further enhance the site’s security infrastructure.
Through innovative design and strategic planning, CDS Security and Fire successfully ensured optimal safety and security of the facility without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the site, ensuring peace of mind for everyone at North Shields Transport Hub.
